Dental Bonding

Dental bonding is a procedure in which a tooth-colored composite resin is used to hide minor cosmetic flaws in your smile. If you are embarrassed to smile due to gaps between your teeth or a chipped, cracked, or discolored tooth, dental bonding can correct those blemishes.

Affordable and non-invasive, dental bonding is a cosmetic procedure that can deliver drastic and immediate results.

What can Dental Bonding address?

Dental bonding is highly effective at addressing minor cosmetic blemishes. The composite resin is the same material we use to fill a cavity.

Our patients often seek bonding to address:

  • Chipped tooth or teeth
  • Discolored tooth or teeth
  • Misshapen or small tooth or teeth
  • Exposed tooth roots
  • Replacement of silver amalgam fillings

Dental bonding cannot address every cosmetic issue. Some patients require more extensive cosmetic dental procedures.

For instance, if your teeth are significantly misaligned, you may be a better candidate for one of our orthodontic options. If all or most of your teeth are discolored, you may opt for teeth whitening. For severely damaged, broken, or uneven teeth, you may be interested in the placement of one or more porcelain veneers. During your consultation, one of our doctors will take the time to fully explain your treatment options.

Benefits of Dental Bonding

Dental bonding is a very versatile cosmetic alternative that can address a wide range of aesthetic issues. Compared to more invasive treatments like veneers, bonding is considerably lower in price. And depending on the need for getting a tooth bonded, dental insurance may even cover it!

Since bonding does not typically require the removal of natural tooth enamel, the treatment is generally reversible. The non-invasive nature of dental bonding allows patients to enjoy their new smile without the risk of complications or the need for a recovery period.

Bonding can be applied during one visit to our office and can often be completed in under half an hour.

The Dental Bonding Process

The process involves a gentle etching of the tooth so the bonding material will adhere properly. This does not hurt or require local anesthesia. Next, we will prepare and shade-match the composite resin so it blends in with your natural teeth.

The material is soft and pliable at this point. After placing it on your tooth, our cosmetic dentist will sculpt it to match your other teeth in shape and size.

When he is happy with how it looks, he will use a special light to harden the bonding material. Next, he will make minor adjustments to ensure it has smooth edges and does not interfere with your bite. Finally, he will polish it to give it a beautiful shine.

Bonded teeth do not require special care. Simply brush and floss as usual and keep up with your routine dental visits to maintain good oral health.
