General Dentistry

General family dentistry services are the foundation of our practice, and when you invest a minimal amount of time and energy in routine preventive care, your smile will reap the benefits for a lifetime. We offer the following family dentistry services to protect your smile from oral diseases and other issues.

Routine Preventive Care

Patients should have their teeth cleaned and receive dental exams every six months at a minimum. This is true for both pediatric patients and their parents. Keep in mind that children should be evaluated by a dentist no later than their first birthday, or sooner, depending on the time the first tooth erupts.

Having your teeth cleaned periodically by a dental hygienist is an important supplement to your home oral hygiene routine. Even if you are diligent about brushing and flossing as directed by your dentist, plaque and tartar may accumulate on some of the hard-to-reach surfaces of your teeth. And by the time tartar develops, you won’t be able to remove it by brushing and flossing alone. A dental hygienist can use specialized instruments to dislodge calculus and can reach all areas of your mouth for a more thorough cleaning. Additionally, if you have any questions about your oral hygiene technique, you can ask the hygienist or dentist at this appointment.

The exams that take place at these check-ups give your dentist an opportunity to monitor your teeth and gums at regular intervals, increasing your chances that any problems that do develop will be diagnosed and treated early before they have a chance to do much damage. In the case of oral cancer, which your dentist will screen for, such exams can actually improve your chances of survival.

Fluoride treatments may also be recommended as part of your preventive care. This helps to remineralize and strengthen teeth, offering some additional protection against decay.

Common General Dentistry Questions

Why should I go to the dentist regularly?

You should see your dentist on a regular basis so that your teeth and gums can be examined at least twice each year. When your dentist inspects your smile at these regular intervals, it’s easier to identify issues such as cavities and gum disease and even oral cancer in their earliest stages when they respond to more conservative treatments. In the case of oral cancer, early detection of a localized lesion is associated with a much better prognosis than malignancies that have spread to surrounding tissues.

How often should I brush and floss?

You should be brushing twice each day and flossing once daily. Be sure to brush for two minutes each time and use a soft-bristled brush while paying attention to your technique. Brushing too hard can actually be as detrimental as not brushing enough!

How often should I have a cleaning?

Patients should have their teeth cleaned professionally at least every six months. This helps to eliminate any plaque or tartar accumulation that persists despite daily brushing and flossing. Patients who are prone to excessive tartar accumulation may want to consider having their teeth cleaned even more frequently, perhaps every three or four months.

Cosmetic Dentistry

Many people are dissatisfied with their natural smiles for any number of reasons, such as teeth that are chipped or discolored. Fortunately, patients can take advantage of cosmetic dentistry options to enhance their smiles and boost their self-confidence.

A crooked smile isn’t merely unsightly. It’s also inefficient in its function and may even cause discomfort for patients. We can correct your smile’s alignment and improve its appearance and function with an innovative treatment option known as Invisalign.

Dental Implants

Dental implants are the only structurally complete tooth replacement available in dentistry today, and they are increasingly popular among patients as a result. This treatment method is convenient, effective, durable and aesthetically pleasing.
